5 weeks after giving birth to my first child, I received a surreal call from the Emirates Woman magazine team saying that I’d been nominated for the Emirates Woman of the Year award in the Achiever category, which celebrated women who have made strides in the business world. Emirates Woman magazine hosted these awards annually as a way of recognising the work of special women in different walks of life and nominates 5 women in each of the following categories: The Visionary, The Humanitarian, The Achiever, and the Artist. As I was currently feeling immensely overwhelmed with being a new mother, the call was both shocking and needed to remind me of my job roles other than mommy (which is more tiring than a full time job!).
The other nominees in the category were Becky Balderstone of Ripe Market, Mona Mirza of Biolite Clinic, Susan Gorman of SARUM, and Sophie Toh of Toh PR so I was definitely honored among such high caliber company. After an open voting process throughout September and October 2014, the exciting experience culminated in a gala event at The Address Montgomerie on November 5, 2014. Due to the immense voting support of my network of friends, family, and fans of The Curve I was named as the winner of the Achiever category! I am so thankful for this experience and award as it is community support and recognition that really make the path of an entrepreneur a rewarding one.
